15/05/2018:  The Kildysart Ladies Junior B team claimed their fifth victory on the trot with a 3-6 to 0-7 win over Doora Barefield(2). This is all the more remarkable as it was played the day after U16 ladies team had a hard fought battle to win the “C” Cup championship, Kildysart 6-5, Doonbeg 2-8. With two matches to spare, the ladies have secured their semi-final berth with three wins in the championship (the other 2 wins are from the on-hold league campaign). The team face Cuil Gaels away in their penultimate match on or before 24th June and then host the East Clare Gaels the following weekend. The semi-final is scheduled for 12th August.

Doora Barefield were first on the scoreboard, but captain Sinead Fox levelled the match with a keenly taken free into the wind in the 4th minute. Doora Barefield went two up again before Roisin Donnellan fisted a Catherine Pender cross to the net to give Kildysart a slim margin 1-1 to 0-3 in the 18th minute. However, as Kildysart struggled to get a handle on the impact of the wind, Doora Barefield went on the offensive. The services of goalie Audrey Kelly were called upon numerous times and she didn’t disappoint but the townies pointed three unanswered scores to give them a 2 point advantage at the break: Kildysart 1-1, Doora Barefield 0-6.

Kildysart made positional switches at the break and introduced debutante Emily Leahy and veteran Gillian Finucane to the fore. Though Kildysart were limited to only 2 scores in the first half, the second half was a different matter. Points from Pender and Ashley O’Brien brought the sides level before 3 minutes were on the clock. Donnellan’s second goal came three minutes later putting the Blues in front and they never looked back. O’Brien and Amy Murphy added two more points, while relentless tackling and defending by the backs limited Doora Barefield to a single point which came in the 21st minute to narrow the gap to 4: Kildysart 2-5, DB 0-7. Murphy added another point before Kildysart added a third goal when a long-range effort by Kyla Foley swooped over the goalies head and into the net. Final score: Kildysart 3-6, Doora Barefield(2) 0-7.
