13/05/2017: A large crowd gathered in Ballynacally to see neighbours Kildysart and Fergus Rovers battle for the Cummins Car Centre U16C Shield on Friday last.  It was a tense affair with the sides level 5 times over the course of the match and showcased some very strong performances from both teams.  However it was Kildysart who claimed the Shield on a score line of 3-6 to 3-4.
Katie Donnellan opened the scoring for Kildysart with a point in the opening minute.  However Fergus Rovers’ Sorcha Donnellan (no relation) scored her first of two goals to bring the Rovers ahead at the 5 minute mark.  The full back line of Aoife McMahon, Clara O’Grady and Sarah Casey worked tirelessly throughout the match to keep the Rovers at bay with goalie Laura Reidy making three great saves during the match.  Points from Sinead Kelly and Grace Sheerer drew the side’s level with 10 minutes played. An unanswered goal and point from Roisin Donnellan put the Blues ahead but Molly McCarthy’s point just before half time left only a goal between them at half time. Kildysart 1-4, Fergus Rovers 1-1.
The Rovers started strongly with Grace O’Sullivan’s goal bringing the sides level 2 minutes after the restart.  The sides swapped points with Roisin Donnellan and Aine Garry popping over the bar to draw level again Kildysart 1-5 and Rovers 2-2.  The mid field pairings of Sinead Kelly and Emma Byrne for Kildysart and Aine Garry and Ava Cotter for Fergus Rovers were well matched and dominated the middle of the pitch.  Kildysart forwards Amy Murphy, Kyla Foley and Rachel Conway were causing trouble for the opposition throughout the match.  A goal from Katie Donnellan put Kildysart ahead by 3 and for the next 5 minutes there was no score until Sorcha Donnellan lifted the Rovers with 1-1 to put them in the lead by 1 with 5 minutes remaining, Kildysart 2-5, Rovers 3-3.  Kildysart’s lively wings backs Caitlin Casey and Emily Leahy were breaking forward all game and were rewarded with a point when centre back Chloe Sheehan slotted one over after a long run up the pitch to bring the sides level again.  Impact sub Megan Sheehan set up the last score for Kildysart when Sinead Kelly’s long range effort ended up in the back of the net in the dying minutes to put the Blues ahead by 3.  The Rovers never gave up and Molly McCarthy’s point put them on the prowl for the winning goal but time ran out.  Full time score Kildysart 3-6, Fergus Rovers 3-4.
