30/08/2014:  The Kildysart Intermediate team were unlucky to lose by a point after added extra time in the Championship semi final playoff v Corofin 1-14 to 2-12. The team played their best football this season and if they keep their form they will be formidable opposition to Kilmihil next Saturday (6th Sept at 6pm in Lab) for the remaining semi final spot.  The winners of that match will face Wolfetones in the semi final; the other semi is Corofin v Eire Og B.

Corofin had the first 2 points on the board but 3 scores from Ger Kelly had Kildysart in front by the end of the first quarter. The match ebbed and flowed with scores level 3 times but despite another point from Ger Kelly, Corofin held the lead at half time 6 points to 4.

A Corofin goal extended their lead to 5 in the opening minutes of the restart, but 4 scores from the on-fire Ger Kelly reduced the margin to just 1 in the 38th minute. However, Kildysart were dealt a blow when Keith Murphy got a straight red in the 42nd minute.  Corofin went on to score the next 2 points to lead 1-8 to 8 as the match headed into the final quarter. Kieran Eyres converted a free from a very difficult angle and followed up with a goal to put Kildysart in front for the first time since the 17th minute. Mid-fielder Keith O'Connor's score was followed by a Corofin point to have the Blues up 1-10 to 1-9 with 3 minutes remaining.  Then a Corofin injury halted the proceedings until the ambulance arrived. Thankfully, the injured player did not require hospitalisation and the match resumed after a 30 minute hiatus. The remaining minutes saw Corofin draw level 2x to send the teams into extra time. Score at the end of normal time 1-11 each.

Points by Ger Kelly and Brian Eyres, countered by 1 from Corofin gave Kildysart the lead at the end of the first period of extra time 1-13 to 1-12.  Another Ger Kelly point put 2 between them with about 4 minutes remaining. Then a bit of skirmish after Kildysart won a free caused the ref to inexplicably blow the full time whistle and begin to walk off. He then changed his mind and opted for a hop ball. Corofin won possession and travelled down field to score the would be winning goal. Kildysart had a chance to equalise but the resultant free went wide and full time whistle blew. Overall, a very solid performance and just 1 win away from a semi-final berth.
