Injury Time Goals Thwart Ladies U14 Opener

17/05/2014:  Congrats to the U14 girls who made history in playing Kildysart's first ladies U14 match this evening in Gurteen v Doora Barefield B.  The score line doesn't reflect the closeness of the match which was tight throughout.  DooraBarefield were first on the board with a point in the third minute.  Kildysart steadied themselves and went ahead when Caitlin Casey and Roisin Donnellan both found the net in quick succession at the turn of the first quarter.  DooraBarefield then went on attack but the backs, led by Sinead Kelly did a great job of stopping them and slowing them down.  Nevertheless, DooraBarefield scored an unanswered 2-3 to lead at the break 2-4 to 2-0.

Kildysart came out strong in the second half and Roisin Donnellan’s point and a goal had the side’s level 10 minutes in.  Two DooraBarefield points had them ahead with 3 minutes to go but Caitlin Casey’s goal had Kildysart in the lead 4-1 to 2-6 with 1 minute remaining.  DooraBarefield were then awarded a free in injury time and a well-placed ball over the keepers head gave DooraBarefield a two point lead.  DooraBarefield then scored another opportunistic goal to put the game out of reach.  Full time score Kildysart 4-1, DooraBarefield 4-6.  The team played very well and as this is Kildysart’s first U14 team, our team is young in comparison to other teams who would have 14 year olds.

Team: Zoe Nagle, Rachel O’Sullivan, Sarah Casey, Sinead Kelly, Niamh Moloney, Emma Byrne, Clara O’Grady, Kyla Foley, Roisin Donnellan-captain (2-1, 1 free), Katie Donnellan, Amy Murphy, Grace Sheerer, Caitlin Casey (2-0), Aoife Cleary, Hannah Mikhael.  Subs: Aoife McMahon, Megan Cooney, Emily Leahy, Jade McNamara, Anna Sheehan.
