Estuary Derby for Minor A Semi-final

26/08/2015:  Kildysart/Coolmeen Minors face Estuary neighbours Clondegad in a Division 1 semi-final showdown after hanging on and beating Miltown 1-13 to 1-10 in the quarterfinal this evening.

The match was played in changeable windy conditions which didn’t favour either side.  Miltown were quick on the board with a point and a goal in the opening minutes but didn’t score again until right before the half.  Seamus Casey started the amalgamation attack and this was followed by 2 points from Ben Cleary and the levelling point coming from the boot of Sean Wallace.  Corner back Conor Donnellan was responsible for 2 points sandwiched between points from Seamus Casey and Barry Crehan, bringing the score to Kildysart/Coolmeen 8 points, Miltown 1-1 with 5 minutes remaining in the half.  The sides swapped points and then Luke McGrath’s goal gave Kildysart/Coolmeen an 8 point lead at the break: Kildysart/Coolmeen 1-10, Miltown 1-2.

Miltown were attacking more in the second half and added three points in the first ten minutes.  Kildysart/Coolmeen countered these with points from Barry Crehan and Cian Murphy and commanded a 7 point lead heading into the final quarter.  It turns out Cian’s point would be the last for the amalgamation in normal time, while Miltown were steadily adding to their tally.  By the end of normal time, Miltown reduced the deficit to 2 and were on the prowl for a game winning goal.  Kildysart/Coolmeen defended well and were rewarded with an injury time insurance point from Ben Cleary.  Final score Kildysart/Coolmeen 1-13, Miltown 1-10.  Semi-final v Clondegad is on next Wednesday in Ballynacally at 6:45.
