03/05/2018: St John Bosco Ladies Football teams have claimed double Munster medals when the Junior team beat Meanscoill San Nicolas, An Rinn, Waterford on 3rd May 3-13 to 3-7.  This follows on from the Senior team who beat Gaelcholaiste Chiarraí, Tralee on 11th April by a scoreline of  2-21 to 1-6.  This is the third set of Munster medals for the Kildysart school as the boys’ team also beat Meanscoill San Nicolas earlier in the year.

It was a tight affair with the lead changing hands many times in the first three periods.  The sides were deadlocked three times, with Bosco only pulling level for the last time with a free just after 60 minutes registered on the clock.  However, nine minutes of injury time was played and Bosco blasted two goals to the net for the 6 point win.

Impact sub Sorcha Donnellan’s goals at either end of the match were pivotal scores for Bosco.  Kildysart were kept scoreless for the first 20 minutes and Donnellan’s first goal settled the team and put them in front 1-0 to 0-2.  A point from Kyla Foley extended the lead but a brace of points from San Nicolas saw the sides’ draw level.  San Nicolas took the lead when they raided for a goal in the 28th minute.  Points from Caiti Donnellan and Sinead McCann just before the first whistle narrowed the gap to only 1 point.  St John Bosco 1-3, San Nicolas 1-4.

It was a physical match with battles up and down the pitch.  The first five minutes of the restart brought parity again at 1-5 apiece.  Over the next 5 minutes Bosco maintained a slight lead 1-7 to 1-6 with midfielder Chloe O’Shea earning her Player of the Match accolade with some tenacious ball winning and setting up scores.  But the Waterford side raided for 2 back to back goals to put them ahead by 5 at the turn of the 4th quarter, 1-7 to 3-6.  Bosco never dropped the heads and the backs defended fiercely to keep San Nicolas to a single score for the remainder of the match while the forwards went on the offensive. There is great depth in the Bosco team as 2-2 was scored from the bench.  A coordinated effort by the Bosco team gave them 6 unanswered points by the 31st minute to draw level once again, Bosco 1-13 to San Nicolas 3-7.  Amy Murphy’s long ball in dropped short and bounced over the goalies head in the 34th minute to give Bosco the lift it needed, however the match wasn’t over yet.  Four more minutes would elapse with San Nicolas pulling out all the stops to get the equaliser, but Sorcha Donnellan would rattle the net again to give Bosco the extra cushion to see out any late rally from Waterford.  Final Score: St John Bosco 3-13, San Nicolas 3-7.
