24/06/2013:  Two kicks of the ball is all that separated Kil/Cool U14's from Kilrush this evening at a very entertaining game of football with Kilrush the ultimate winners 7-10 to 6-11.  Kil/Cool played some strong football and were in contention to win throughout the entire match.  This high scoring affair saw the sides level 3 times and the lead change hands 4 times in the opening half.  Kilrush started the match with 2 goals within the opening 3 minutes but Kil/Cool replied with Dylan Power scoring 1-1 and points from Stephen Sheehan and Emmet McMahon to level the match at 11 minutes in.  Emmet McMahon fisted a goal into the net 3 minutes later to give Kil/Cool the lead at the end of the 1st quarter.  Stephen Sheehan added 1 more and Kil/Cool kept Kilrush scoreless after their opening 2 goals into the 20th minute.  A burst from Kilrush of 2-1 in a 3 minute period saw them go level and then pull ahead by 4 with 8 minutes remaining in the opening half.  Kil/Cool responded with 2-2 from the boot of Stephen Sheehan to pull ahead by 2 points at the break Kil/Cool 3-7, Kilrush 4-2.
The second half proved to be as exciting as the first with Dylan Power extending Kil/Cool's lead with a goal in the opening minutes of the restart.  Kilrush were just as determined and scored 1-3 without reply to go ahead by 1. Dylan Power again did the job and leveled the sides at the end of the 3rd quarter.  The teams swapped points again and were level at the 50th minute Kil/Cool 4-9, Kilrush 5-6.  Kilrush scored another 1-3 without reply to go 6 ahead but a converted penalty by Emmet McMahon in the 53rd minute and a point by Aaron Slobody brought Kil/Cool to within 2 points with 5 minutes remaining.  Kilrush struck again with 1-1 to go 2 goals up with 3 minutes on the clock.  Kil/Cool rallied and never gave up and with a goal from Paul O'Sullivan and another point from Stephen Sheehan brought the lead back to just 2 points but were unable to close the gap before time was up.  It was an excellent performance from both teams and Kil/Cool were congratulated by the Kilrush coach on their performance and he stated it has been 30 years since Kilrush played Kildysart at Division A football at under age level.  It's very encouraging to see our team perform at this level against very strong teams.
