Ladies Football

16/04/2015:  Kildysart will have a U14 team in the 2015 championship. As this is their first year, they are competing in Division D. We wish them every success.

11/04/2015: For 2015, Ladies U12 football format will consist of Go Games during April, May and June. This non competitive format allows for more fun in the games and gives every girl a chance to develop. The maximum 11-a-side, unlimited subs format means that every girl gets meaningful playing time during the 3 match blitz.

Saturday 11th April was the first outing for 2015 and it consisted of 4 venues hosting 23 teams - totalling over 225 girls.  The weather was a bit hit or miss but this didn't take away from the good display of football on the day.  Kildysart travelled to Cooraclare and competed against Cooraclare, Fergus Rovers and Kilmhil.

28/05/2014:  It's been just over a year since the Kildysart Ladies U12 team played in their very first match in Kilmihil. It was a bitter cold Sunday evening and the Blues lost 3-5 to 1 point. What a difference a year makes. Tonight's display of football was impressive and a world apart from last year. The first half was a very tight affair with no more than 2 points separating the teams. Katie Donnellan and Megan Sheehan slotted over the first 2 points of the match. Kilmihil then stunned the crowd when their 45' lobbed over the goalie's head for a goal. Kilmihil followed this with a point but a brace of points from Roisin Donnellan drew the sides level mid way through the half. Then feisty debutant Grace Sheerer got the first of her 2 points to put Kildysart ahead. Megan Cooney saved a certain goal before Kilmihil broke through for their second goal. Roisin Donnellan's goal 2 minutes before the break put Kildysart back into the lead which they held for the remainder of the match. Megan Sheehan scored the last point of the half leaving the score Kildysart 1-6 to Kilmihil 2-1.

In the second half backs Sarah Casey, Emma Byrne and Rachel O'Sullivan frustrated Kilmihil's attempts to push forward. Rachel Conway at full back was letting nothing passed and Sinead Kelly at wing back was crucial in moving the ball up the field. Roisin Donnellan and Megan Sheehan opened the scoring in the 2nd half before Katie Donnellan put a fluke goal past Zoe Nagle who played in goals for Kilmihil. Kildysart's score would have been much higher only for the fearless Zoe who stopped at least 3 goals. Amy Murphy who was instrumental in setting up many scores added a point to extend the lead. Two points from Kilmihil and 2 more from Roisin Donnellan gave Kildysart the lead 2-11 to 2-3 with 10 minutes remaining. Caitlin Casey moved out to midfield and won all her battles for the ball. Aoife Cleary and Aoife McMahon also impressed in their first outing though they were wearing Kilmihil jerseys. They made the forwards work for their points. Eve Garry did very good in defence as did Laoise Keane. Kilmihil added 2 more points while Megan Sheehan added a goal and Grace Sheerer the final point to finish Kildysart 3-12, Kilmihil 2-5.

Team: Megan Cooney, Sarah Casey, Rachel Conway, Rachel O'Sullivan, Emma Byrne, Sinead Kelly, Katie Donnellan (1-1), Megan Sheehan (1-3), Roisin Donnellan (1-5), Amy Murphy (0-1), Caitlin Casey, Grace Sheerer (0-2).  Subs: Eve Garry, Laoise Keane

02/09/2013:  The Kildysart Ladies U12 team had a very exciting first season which culminated in getting to a Shield Final. Reaching the final was a great achievement and is a credit to the team in their first year out.  Unfortunately, the girls lost the final to Burren Gaels B 1-3 to 3 points. The loss was an unfitting end to a great season and a wonderful bunch of girls who played their heart out in the final and in all their matches.  Co-captains Ruth Finucane and Chloe Sheehan led the girls out on the field and playing with the breeze in the first half the Girls in Blue led at the break 3 points to 1 with points from Rachel Conway, Megan Sheehan and Katie Donnellan.  With the wind at their backs in the second half, Burren Gaels came out strong and scored 1-2 to win the match.  This year was a very special year for all involved and we are looking forward to an even better next season.  There was an "End of Season" party in the hall after the match and it was enjoyed by all.

25/05/2013: Kildysart Ladies U12 team got off to a perfect start in their Championship opener with a big win over Kilrush B on Saturday last in front of a large home crowd.  Kilrush played some good football and kept the game very competitive way into the second half.  Kildysart enjoyed only the smallest of margins at half time leading 2-1.  Roisin Donnellan opened the account for Kildysart with a point in the 2nd minute.  Kilrush followed a few minutes later with a point to level the match. A goal save by Ruth Finucane and excellent work by the backs lead by Chloe Sheehan, Sarah Casey and the tireless Sinéad Kelly, helped to keep Kilrush from further scores. Captain Amy Murphy put the Blues ahead with a well taken free and the score at the break was Kildysart 2 Kilrush 1.

Ruth Finucane came out of goals and joined Katie Donnellan in mid field and was an inspiration to the team as she started off the scoring for Kildysart in the 2nd half. Megan Sheehan put further distance between the sides and Rachel Conway's goal save helped preserve the Blues' lead. Fowards Eve Garry, Jacinta Casey-vice captain and Caitlin Casey helped to ensure the ball stayed in the Kildysart half of the pitch.  Roisin Donnellan's goal in the 34th minute created some space and spurred the girls on.  An excellent point by Katie Donnellan and a rocket to the net by Rachel Conway put Kildysart ahead 2-5 to 1 point and this was the final result. Subs Megan Cooney, Rachel O'Sullivan and new-comer Emma Byrne provided fresh legs to the team and played some very good football.
Kildysart: Ruth Finucane (0-1), Sarah Casey, Chloe Sheehan, Megan Sheehan (0-1), Sinéad Kelly, Rachel Conway (1-0), Katie Donnellan (0-1) Roisin Donnellan (1-1), Caitlin Casey, Amy Murphy (0-1, 1f), Jacinta Casey, Eve Garry.   Subs Megan Cooney, Rachel O'Sullivan, Emma Byrne.

March 2013:  The newly formed Kildysart Ladies U12 team played their inaugural match on Sunday 24th March v Kilmihil and although the scoreboard shows we lost, for the girls and the club it was a great success.  In 2013, the Kildysart GAA club incorporated ladies U12, U10 & U8 teams into the club to accommodate the expanding number of under-age players. Having the facility to play the girls and boys separately gives all players equal opportunity to develop and enjoy football.

The Kildysart team, which includes 8 girls from the Kildysart National School Girls’ team who contested the Cumann na mBunscol final last June played good football but were overcome by a stronger Kilmihil team.  Final score was 3-5 to 1 point, with captain Chloe Sheehan getting us on the scoreboard.  Thanks to the great support from the stands who braved the artic-like conditions to cheer the girls on.

Our next match is on Saturday 30th March away to Coolmeen at 10am.
